No doubt, one of the best spots in Lisbon to see stunning views of the city, dine on creative Portuguese cuisine and have a cocktail with the in-crowd is at SEEN, the groovy new Art Deco restaurant on top of the Tivoli Avenida hotel on Avenida da Liberdade.
It’s the latest project from star chef Olivier da Costa, the man who brought us K.O.B., Guilty, Yazuka First Floor, and Avenida. He’s also the man who created the SEEN concept in São Paulo on the top floor of Avenida Liberdade’s sister hotel, the Tivoli São Paulo Mofarrej. Now he’s bringing it back to his native Portugal with help from his Brazilian collaborators, award-winning chef William Ribeiro and head bartender Heitor Marin.
First, there’s the cool factor. In addition to the Art Deco finishings (not only aesthetically appealing, but a nod to history of the Tivoli Avenida Liberdade, which first opened its doors in the 1930s), there’s 360-degree see-and-be-seen bar, large velvet and Chesterfield sofas, nightly DJ sets, and a great view over Lisbon. Mixologist Lucas Jaques is responsible for the original cocktails.
Then there’s the food. SEEN’s menu is inspired by local ingredients and authentic Portuguese and Brazilian gastronomy. There are Waygu-style beef, fish and seafood from the Portuguese coast, and typically Brazilian ingredients. Local chef Ivan Muhongo is bringing Olivier’s ideas to life.
In addition, there’s a sushi bar, commanded by Chef Thalles Boniatti dos Santos, that skews toward traditional Japanese cuisine and an oyster bar with the freshest bivalves of the national coast. And there are several creative vegetarian selections, a welcome (but still rare) addition for Lisbon’s growing veggie population and visitors, including the Salad 90% Organic.
