At the end of 2022, a spinoff of the stylish AlmaLusa hotel in Lisbon’s historic center opened in the heart of the village of Comporta. While new openings have been difficult to count lately, the AlmaLusa Comporta stands out for its central location, within walking distance of the best boutiques and restaurants in the Comporta village. It’s also just 15 minutes by foot from the beach.
The lobby, the restaurant and café, and the 22 rooms and 31 suites are inspired by the surroundings. They’re filled with natural materials and neutral furnishings that reference the dunes nearby. Although the bathrooms are on the snug side, the rooms are generally comfortable and functional. Many of them have balconies.
An onsite concierge team can organize activities from wine tastings to bird-watching to bike tours through the rice fields to horseback riding on the beach. They can also book catamaran cruises to spot dolphins.
In summer, the rooftop bar is a lively spot for watching the sunset, with DJs spinning well into the night on weekends (just remember to bring repellant for Comfort’s notorious mosquitos). The dining options are casual, including an indoor restaurant and a café with grab-and-go items for beach picnics.
