The Anantara Spa in the 18th-century Tivoli Palácio de Seteais hotel is a winning mix of old and new, Asian and Portuguese, relaxation and invigoration. It is an import from Tivoli’s sister hotel group, the Thailand-based Anantara brand, but with plenty of local and regal elements.
The Anantara Spa is in the palace’s former dovecote tower, or pigeonnier, as it was known in former times.
Likewise, the services are based on ancient and timeless healing traditions, such as Thai massage, with its assisted yoga-like stretches, and vinotherapy, a wellness tradition that involves the rejuvenating reservatrol and polyphneols found in wine grapes. These particular treatments use the grapes that go into Colares Wine, the marquee product from the 12th-century vineyards nearby.
Facials are performed with the funky French cult favorite Biologique Recherche. There is also a room dedicated to Vichy showers, a full-body hydrotherapy treatment based on cascades of water that are more than welcome in Portugal’s summer heat.
