In case the name didn’t make it clear, the idea of the new Immerso Hotel outside Ericeira, about an hour northwest of Lisbon, is to immerse yourself in nature. It’s one of two five-star hotels to open on the outskirts of the famous surf town recently, signaling the evolution of the destination—not just a mecca for wave chasers, but also for those who love nature, simplicity, design and excellent food.
The 37 rooms are comfortably sized, simply decorated, and superbly comfortable. Because the building was constructed into the side of a hill—something that makes it low-profile on the approach, the better to appreciate the ocean views beyond—a majority of them have stunning views over the Atlantic Ocean.
Each room has a private balcony, and guests also have access to the main terrace, with its tables and chairs for meals on warm days (and blankets for Ericeira’s microclimate) and with its swimming pool and sundeck.
A major calling card for the hotel is its restaurants, which are overseen by Michelin-star chef Alexandre Silva (Loco and Fogo in Lisbon). The main one, Emme, has a casual dining room indoors and a menu that emphasizes fresh Atlantic cuisine, especially fish and seafood, with some sea vegetables and some land ones from the hotel’s own organic garden. Opening soon, the second restaurant, Emme on Fire, will have an outdoor dining area and cook all of its dishes over an open fire.
