Jorge Martins “Topomorphias” at Centro de Arte & Culture, Evora – 22 October through 26 March

The Art and Culture Center of the Eugénio de Almeida Foundation in Évora presents Topomorphias, an exhibition of works by Portuguese artist Jorge Martins.  The show features new works by the artist as well as past works hand-selected by the artist himself.  Topomorphias runs from 22 October 2022 to 26 March 2023

Born in 1940 in Lisbon and raised in the city as well, Martins first exhibited 1959.  His style has evolved over the decades, from neo-figurative tendencies to abstracts and on to abstract constructions.

Works in this exhibition, chosen by Martins, stretch back to the early 2010s, although most of this collection was produced after 2018, and much of it created during solitary times of the pandemic outbreak.

Martins has won numerous awards over his career including Acquisition Prize at the Modern Art Exhibition at the Funchal Museum (1967), AICA Prize (1971 and 1988), Design Prize at the 3rd Fine Arts Exhibition of the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation (1986) and the Consecration Prize CELPA/Vieira da Silva (2003).  His works are included in significant collections across Portugal and around the world.
