Lisbon accommodations rarely get more polished and refined than they do at the new Lisbon Chiado Hotel, a boutique property holding pride of place at one end of Largo Rafael Bordalo Pinheiro in Chiado. It’s the product of one of Lisbon’s most established luxury real estate developers, Coporgest, and their thoroughly considered attention to detail shows in every dimension.
The developers chose a handsome, black and white palette for the 40 guest rooms, whose stark geometry is enlivened with vintage-looking black-and-white photos and whose bathrooms gleam white with luminous marble. They’re somber without being cold, and soft fabrics and plush cushions complement the architectural rigor.

But the hotel’s best features are outside the rooms. Its rooftop has one of the best views in town, stretching nearly 360 degrees to take in the Tagus River, Castelo São Jorge, and the red tile roofs of Baixa below. It’s the setting for a range of craft cocktails and a menu of “beyond bites” that includes the likes of mussels in escabeche, beef tartare, and an extravagant lobster salad.

The serious dining is happening downstairs, at the street-level restaurant Broto. This is a showplace for rising star chef Pedro Pena Bastos, who first made is name at Ceia and earned a Michelin star at Cura at the Four Seasons Ritz Hotel. His dinner menu emphasizes a casual cuisine made with premium ingredients and elevated technique. In the morning, it becomes the hotel’s breakfast room, with a better-than-needed spread of local products and eggs cooked to order on request.

Likewise, the spa aims to become a destination for in-the-know Lisboetas. It has a large, indoor pool, a sauna and Turkish bath, a well-equipped gym, and a handful of cabins for treatments with premium products from Biologique Recherche and Anne Semonin. Along with access for hotel guests and a la carte treatments, it offers an invitation to the community that ranges from day passes that allow use of the facilities to full-fledged monthly executive memberships that include access and discounts on spa services and on the restaurants upstairs.
