Myriad by Sana, Lisbon

The Myriad by SANA hotel serves-up a generous slice of luxury in Lisbon’s Parque das Nações neighborhood.  Although some travellers might decry the location outside of the city center, the hotel takes full advantage of its riverfront position and unique access to Lisbon’s most modern and dynamic district.  Offering stylishly-appointed rooms, choice dining options, cool lounge terrace and an unforgettable spa experience, the Myriad is a splendid urban resort for international visitors and local “stay-cationers” alike.

The Myriad is one of the most iconic structures in modern Lisbon.  In 2012, SANA Hotels erected the hotel building beside the existing Vasco da Gama Tower (originally built as the focal-point of the 1998 World’s Fair).  Together, the silhouette of the two structures evokes a vision of a caravel at full sail with a giant mast topped by a crow’s nest, celebrating Portugal’s rich past of maritime discoveries.

Every aspect of Myriad benefits from the spectacular panoramic views.  In fact, each of the 176 rooms and 10 suites face the river.  Décor is contemporary featuring a chic silver, red and chrome palette, with shiny glass and marble in the bathrooms.  The 26 Premium Rooms (pictured at top) have the added benefit of whirlpool baths and massage jet showers.

If more space is what you need to relax or conduct business, the nine suites provide 55-59m2 of area with panoramic views of the river.  The Presidential Suite expands across 110m2, and boasts a lounge area, dining room, walk in closet, and support kitchen with separate entrance for staff.

The River Lounge, on the lobby level, is the centerpoint for gastronomy and entertainment.  The dining room is surrounded by glass windows, once again showcasing the beautiful views of the riverfront location.  In the kitchen, Chef Carlos Cardoso prepares signature cuisine with Mediterranean influences.  It’s an ideal spot for business lunches and casual dinners.  And, on Saturday and Sunday, from 1:00-to-4:00, a sumptuous brunch buffet includes luscious local products like oysters from Sesimbra, octopus from the Algarve and crabs from Cascais.

Outside, the River Lounge Terrace beckons, providing al fresco ambiance for afternoon tea or evening champagne.  Inside, the River Lounge Bar mixes signature and classic cocktails.  Live music is scheduled daily.

Not to be overlooked, is a very special treat for foodies. Step inside the tower elevator for a fifty second ride to the top.  When the doors open, enter Fifty Seconds by Martin Berasategui restaurant.  Spanish chef Berasategui holds 12 Michelin stars for seven restaurants across the Iberian peninsula.  Fifty Seconds is home to one of those stars.  You may select either a la carte dishes or set menus.  Either way, you’ll be delighted by Berasategui’s immense creativity and combination of flavors and technique.

Perhaps the chery on top of the Myriad cake is the Myriad Spa on the top floor of the hotel.  The full complement of a therapueutic pool, Turkish bath, steam room and Technogym is accented, once again, by panoramic views over the river.  It is truly an ethereal experience.  Be sure to book a massage or treatment in a private room for that extra touch of luxury and skyhigh view.
