Autumn in the Algarve is about to get a little more colorful! On Saturday, 24 October, Vila Vita Biergarten in Porches welcomes the Pumpkin Market, a festive celebration of seasonal flavors, European traditions, live jazz, and family-friendly activities. Inspired by the charming autumn markets of Bavaria, the one-day event runs from 12:30 to 20:00, with free admission for everyone.
Pumpkin markets have long been a popular autumn tradition across Germany and Central Europe, celebrating the harvest with colorful displays of pumpkins and gourds, regional foods, handmade decorations, and seasonal festivities. At Vila Vita Biergarten, this tradition takes on an Algarve personality, combining Bavarian hospitality with Portuguese ingredients and a playful culinary twist.
For the occasion, the Biergarten transforms into a lively autumn marketplace, complete with wooden stalls, seasonal decorations, and pumpkins of every shape and size. Naturally, food takes center stage, with a special menu celebrating the versatility of the season’s favorite ingredient.
Savory highlights include pumpkin Schupfnudeln (traditional German potato noodles) with Azorean cheese and seed crumble, burgers served in pumpkin buns, pork and pumpkin hot dogs with coleslaw, and vegetable, mushroom, and pumpkin quiche.
Sweet temptations range from pumpkin pie with pecans and whipped cream to pumpkin cookies with caramel chips, spiced streusel, and pumpkin-inspired Dutch mini pancakes. Vila Vita Parc’s Gelato Mio joins the fun with vegan pumpkin and walnut ice cream and orange-pumpkin sorbet. To drink? A comforting Pumpkin Spice Latte or a specially created Pumpkin Beer.
Beyond the food stalls, a live jazz quartet sets the mood for a leisurely afternoon, while pumpkin-carving workshops invite children and adults to get creative with their own seasonal decorations.
