As Comporta and Melides are growing and growing, that brand of beach chic is spreading further down the coast. The latest spot for stylish design, excellent food, and a beautiful crowd is Alma Nomada, in Porto Covo along the Vicentina Coast.
There, beneath striped canopies, diners tuck into unusual flavor combinations and luxurious ingredients (think grilled Bluefin tuna and 60-day aged T-bone steaks) prepared by rising star chef Ricardo Leite. He made a name for himself at Bica do Sapato after working with some of Portugal’s top chefs at restaurants like Viajante, Loco, Feitoria, and 100 Maneiras.
For now, there’s a funny disconnect between the restaurant’s sophisticated vibe and its surroundings. It’s in the Costa do Vizir campground, which tends to rank well on “best camping” lists, but is still a campground.
For me, the quirky accommodations in a little prefab cottage added to the adventure and the sense of having a nomadic soul, as the name implies. But there are plans in the works to create villas that match the restaurant’s level of luxury, as well as to add a fine dining spot and casual bistro.
