For more than a century, the MICHELIN Guide has set the benchmark for gastronomic excellence. Now its influence extends well beyond the restaurant table, with the MICHELIN Keys recognizing hotels that deliver exceptional stays through design, character, service and a strong sense of place. For 2026, the Guide has unveiled its second global selection of MICHELIN Key hotels — and Portugal continues to make an impressive showing.

Portugal’s New Michelin Key Hotels
This year, 16 Portuguese hotels join the distinguished list, including one new Two MICHELIN Key hotel and 15 new One MICHELIN Key properties. See new awardees marked with a red new in the list below.) The additions bring Portugal’s 2026 collection to 69 hotels: two awarded the coveted Three MICHELIN Keys, 14 with Two Keys and 53 with One Key.
How are hotels selected?
From tranquil countryside retreats to opulent coastal resorts and design-forward urban hideaways, these hotels represent the best of Portugal’s hospitality scene. The MICHELIN Key system is an international standard for hotel excellence, just as the Stars have long done for fine dining.
Selected independently by the MICHELIN Guide’s expert inspectors—through anonymous stays and meticulous evaluations—the awarded hotels are recognized not by status or prestige, but by the quality and character of the experience they offer. Each property is judged on five universal criteria:
- The hotel is a gateway to its destination.
- Excellence in interior design and architecture.
- Quality and consistency in service, comfort, and upkeep.
- Value for money in relation to the experience.
- Uniqueness, character, and authenticity.
