Porto’s cultural calendar gains an important new addition this September with the debut of ARTePorto – Contemporary, Modern and Antiques Art Fair, bringing galleries, antique dealers, collectors and art professionals to the city from September 24 to 27, 2026.
Taking over the historic Alfândega do Porto Congress Centre on the banks of the Douro River, ARTePorto is the first art-market fair of this scale to be held in Porto in approximately three decades. Its ambitions extend beyond the city, positioning the event as a meeting point for the increasingly connected cultural and collecting communities of Northern Portugal and neighboring Galicia.
For collectors, the appeal lies in the breadth of the fair. ARTePorto will combine contemporary and modern art with antiques and collectibles, with participating exhibitors selected by an independent committee of art experts. The curatorial approach is intended to ensure quality, diversity and credibility while creating a professional platform for galleries and dealers to meet established and emerging collectors.
The social calendar begins on September 24 with an invitation-only VIP Preview, followed that evening by a VIP Exhibition Opening Party for a limited number of guests. On Sunday, September 27, a Sunset Party overlooking the Douro will bring collectors, exhibitors and guests together for an afternoon of networking and conversation as the inaugural fair draws to a close.
Adding institutional significance to its debut, ARTePorto has been granted the High Patronage of the Presidency of the Republic, recognizing its role in strengthening Porto and Northern Portugal as a creative hub and fostering cultural connections across the northwest Iberian Peninsula.
With art, collecting and the Douro as its backdrop, ARTePorto looks set to give culturally minded travelers another compelling reason to put Porto on their September calendar.
